PDST is delighted to welcome you to its inaugural post-primary literacy conference “Unlocking the Door to Learning”  on 18th April 2015 in St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra.   


Literacy is integral to accessing learning across the curriculum.  This conference offers a broad and diverse range of literacy workshops as well as the opportunity for professional conversations around practice  in  the teaching of literacy across different curricular contexts.

Finian O’ Shea is a lecturer in education at Church of Ireland College. He works primarily on the Post Graduate Diploma in Learning Support and Special Educational Needs.  He has a long standing passion for and interest in the teaching and learning of literacy and, in particular, in literature for children and young adults. He is a past president of The Reading Association of Ireland and served on their executive for over three decades. His current areas of interest centre on three quite different domains - teacher literacy identity, teacher reflective practice and literacy tattoos. He has very recently completed his own PhD in TCD and is now exploring the wonderful world of the MOOC.

The PDST Literacy conference 2015 (St Patrick's College Drumcondra) can be easiliy reached by following the directions below.



St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9 is situated on the main Belfast Road (M1), which is also the road from the airport, about 2 km to the north of city centre.

Arriving by car from the North, continue on the M1 towards the city centre and as the road becomes the Swords Road, then Drumcondra Road, look out for the Regency Hotel on your left, and then the Skylon Hotel on your right. St Patrick's College is almost adjacent to the Skylon Hotel. The entrance to the College is on your right - at the first set of traffic lights past the Skylon Hotel. Parking is available in designated areas in the grounds of the College.



Arriving from the airport take the no. 41/41A bus right to the College gates, or the City-Airport bus from the Arrivals terminal. This takes about twenty minutes and costs €5.00 approx. There are also taxis; expect to pay about €15.00, and ask for St Patrick's College, Drumcondra.



1, 11, 13, 16, 33, 41, 41B, 41C, 44 .  Real Time Information from Dublin Bus can be found by navigating to the following link. Buses stop outside the College main gates.



The College is directly north along the Drumcondra Road from the station. It is served by trains on the Maynooth Line. Arriving by train (from the North) to Connolly Station, walk to the city centre and take bus number: 1, 11, 13, 16, 41, 44 North to Drumcondra. Alternatively, take a taxi from Connolly station to the College - about 10 minutes /€10.00 approx. Arriving by train (from the South and West) to Heuston Station, take the Luas to the city centre, and then one of the following buses 1, 11, 13, 16, 41, 44 to Drumcondra.
